Naijaborn.com is a African based custom built social networking engine that creates a searchable, detailed, user-generated database of the global Nigerian community. It is the place to find Nigerians and their creations.
An initiative of Francis Oghuma (Qubestreet), developed from scratch by the Cameroonian code guru Mambe Nanje (AfroVision Group). These two have formed an alliance called Show Ya Sef Africa. Africa are you ready?
To their credit Naija Born got approximately 2000 users from April till December. And in terms of content on the site, they have approximately:
- 11713 microposts
- 3000 pictures uploaded
- 1000 blog posts
- 200 songs uploaded
- 300 art works shared
With the next steps they are about to take i see these figures multiplying exponentially! Especially with the introduction of an intuitive invitation module and fine tuning of some already existing features.
So… Are you Naija Born? head on now to www.naijaborn.com and Show Ya Sef!
My verdict: Great initiative. it can only get better! I remember the first release of facebook. There is nothing in this class in the Nigerian and i dare say African Market. Just a few tweaks (interface and features) and BOOM! Some one give Mark Zuckerberg binoculars and say LOOK OUT FOR Naija Born!

hey thats a wonderfull post about our baby site
. thanks for the nice words in your verdict
show ya sef
Wow!
show ya sef !
I wonder why every one is making so much noise because Francis has money to throw around on marketing.
There have been sites like ovaloaded that have interfaces that does not destroy your eyes.
They can’t even implement the simplest of ajax.
because someone knows how to use kohana does not mean they are gangsters.
My 2 kobo.
interesting comment wizard of oz….
Hi Wizard of oz.
dont get u.
i havent spent a dollar on marketing
why the hate talk?
anything personal?
Its not hate talk.
And the fact that you have not spent a dollar on the most effective campaign I have seen for a Nigerian setup is actually impressive.
And that is why it hurts to see that crappy interface and features like watered down beer.
Naijaborn should be better with the talent it currently has and does not deserve all the noise at all.
Have you given http://www.ovaloaded.com a whirl? That is what a serious social networking website should look and work like. DISCLAIMER: I am not even a genuine member. Just registered like 18 months ago, was impressed about the thing, dissapointed about the marketing and filed it at the back of my brain as a Nigerian site done right.
I’m not hating, I don’t hate… but if something is not good, it not good. If we don’t call a spade a spade, we won’t move forward on the global level…. aint that what we want for Nigerian web?
Took a look at ovaloaded. Ws quite impressed. Impressed enough to shoot them a mail. I think 2digits can put them on the map. No response from them yet tho. They prolly holidayi
ng
I shot them a mail back then too. They never replied. Those guys need serious marketing. That machine they have over there looks custom built.
Its only their designer that has a public profile though. http://www.tobbbie.com
The others kinda keep low profiles.
after all said…. the engine room of naijaborn is what has caught my attention… its a lovely framework and iv been made to understand its 100% custom built…. interface & user experience in the near future should definitely be revamped… 2digits would be on hand for that
ovaloaded on the other hand… is truly loaded… still needs a bit of cleanin up plus some goood perception management… n it has what it takes to go places!
hey wizard wht is ur name huh? beta watch ur typing or esle lols anyway 2digits said it we coming out wif a new interface
